ConHair

A hairdryer that has been modified with hair extensions that act as a switch to turn the dryer on. The dryer was designed at a meta or self-referential level to suggest that it is aware of itself and its function.

Not only does it literally have hair, but if one pulls that very same hair – the dryer turns on. The verbal description of pulling its hair to turn it on is rhetorically sexual– which brings us to the most human characteristic of all – sex. Interacting with the hairdryer becomes a frisky innuendo that this object can be sexually turned on.

Mixed Connections

The phone is parsing through craigslist missed connections and read through google translate- crossing lines of communication- allowing objects to access information & speak to us on multiple levels.

The way we develop relationships has drastically changed due to evolving communication technologies. This prototype looks at future of communication devices and explores the limits of intimacy, togetherness, and co-presence through networked objects.

Tender Blender

The blender’s normal controls have been replaced with new switches that mimic intimate body parts. The user has to caress it to switch it on. It has a new foreign system of control.

The blender responds to conductivity–specifically the human touch.It can be turned on by touching both of the outside pods at the same time. It is sensitive to how hard or soft you touch it. The motor is now controlled by outside forces and will react depending on its environment and the type of interaction.
